OPCK Competitiveness and Cohesion Operational Program 2014-2020
Investing into transport infrastructure in the programme period 2014-2020 is focused on infrastructure required for modern, competitive and interconnected European economy that will facilitate flow of people and goods not only in Croatia, but towards other parts of Europe as well. The investment will also focus on improving accessibility of towns and isolated areas by means of functional regional centres and on enhancing territorial cohesion.
Integration of Croatian transport network into European transport network and enhanced regional connections will promote the development of national economy, improve passenger and freight traffic as well as traffic safety and it will create prerequisites for investment into new traffic capacities and decrease adverse environmental impacts.
Transport sector which in the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion (OPCC) in the 2014-2020 period is designated as priority # 7 Connectivity and Mobility has been given HRK 9,9 billion from EU funds for the achievement of the said goals. HRK 3,04 billion from that amount comes from the European Fund for Regional Development (EFRD), and HRK 6,9 billion from the Cohesion fund (CF).
The EFRD proceeds are allocated for financing the road transport projects, and for improving traffic safety, while the proceeds from CF are intended for the development of projects that will promote the use and relevance of railway network in urban, suburban and regional traffic and to improve the accessibility of inhabited islands and connections with the mainland and increase the volumes of freight traffic on the inland waterway routes and to further develop Dubrovnik Airport.
In addition to the proceeds allocated for the development of transport infrastructure the OPCC foresees significant funds for the use of information and communication technologies, to foster investment the next generation network infrastructure for the development of which HRK 1,58 billion from EFRD has been planned.
